New ideas!

Today my brain is working 1000 miles per hours and I'm having a loooot of new ideas that I could post here. I'm not going to tell you guys all of them, but I'm going to let you know about some, and I want to know what you guys think about them. Leave the comments below! ;)

  1. I'm going to start doing interviews and guest posts here. People who are on their way to an acting career, or a modelling career, "youtube actors", and anyone who might give advice about it. So, if you do some work like this, or you have an experience that you think could be shared with us, let me know. Send me an e-mail at actinginyourstyle@hotmail.com I'll be more than happy to talk about you here.
  2. I'm starting acting and modelling contests here. No, your not getting any prizes if you win but it's still a great experience and a way of training and improving every day. I hope you participate.
  3. I'm starting "answer posts". Ok, what does that mean? It means that every once in a while I'll ask you guys to send your questions to me, and I'll make a whole post answering some of them.
That's it(I mean, that's not it, I'm having many, many ideas. But that's the one I wanted to share) I want your opinions on those, so please leave the comments below. Feel free to ask any questions too.

Acting Techiniques Online

I've been searching around and I found out that many, many people ask if they should get acting classes, if online tips helped and stuff like that.
The answer is: it depends
On what? On you
What I mean is, there are lots of helpful techiniques that are listed online and there are tips that actually help you become a better actor. But mostly it depends on you. There are tips and techiniques that may be helpful for me and may not work with someone else. Like, how to fake cry and how to fake laugh and how to do this and that.
But the truth is, there are lots of ways to do those things and they might work for you or not, so keep trying and if it doesn't work, just try something else.
Example: I can't fake cry(I can pretend I'm crying(and it actually sounds pretty real) but if you don't see my face but no tears come out), but I'm still working on that.
So just keep looking for the way that works the best for you and keep working. ;)

Hope I helped.

PS. Sorry, I couldn't update last friday. But I have reasons, and the reason is that I drove(I mean, my mom drove, I was just bored in the car) all the way from Arlington to New York, and then I had to take a shower and unpack and pack again, and I did log on to my blog but I didn't really have time to do anything because I had to get ready and get a plane to L.A.(I know what you're thinking. Why didn't you just get the plane from VA to LA. My mom's weird like that sometimes.), and when I got to LA finally, I was super tired and hungry(I get sick with airplane food) and the only things I could think about was FOOD, and BED(which by the way, was the most confortable bed I've ever slept) and I had a pretty busy weekend. I mean, I spent my whole weekend on my friend Emily's house and I didn't even touch a computer, so I couldn't even make up to it during the weekend.
Sorry!

Becoming a model

Since I'm going to a modelling/commercials agency I though I should talk about modelling here. I want to be an actress, I am going to a modelling agency because:
  • People say that I would be a good model and I want to try out.
  • The agency also makes TV commercial, and that's something I'd like to do.
  • To get experience.
I know many people would like to become models, and many people would like to try out as models for the same reasons I am(I have no interest in becoming a professional model or anything).

First, you should find a modelling agency. So, basically, google it, and look for agencies near you, and once you find one you like, just call it and ask if they are having open calls, or if you should go there at an especific time.
Also, go to agencies that are for whatever your interested in so if your interested in commercials go to a modelling/commercials agency(like the one I am going to).

After I go to the agency, I'm going to make a whole post about what I did and what happened there and if I made it to the cast and everything.

Sometimes they ask you to bring pictures of you, or to send them pictures of you, and sometimes they just want to see you in person, so just make sure to ask them exactly what they want, and what you should bring, and if you should wear something especific and everything. Because some agencies ask you to bring stuff and some agencies don't but you don't want to get there and don't have what they want right?

Like in acting, you should look confident and in a good mood. That actually increases your chances of getting accepted in the agency.

If the agency only accepts a certain kind of people, like if the agency only accepts people that are really tall(like 5'8 or 5'9), and you're short, don't even go, because your only going to be loosing your time.

Also make sure to practice. Like, practice in front of the mirror, find out poses that you look good in. And when your there, be serious, show professionalism. And have a good posture!

Be optimistic, but still, this is a very competitive industry, even more competitive than acting. So if you get rejected(which you are going to, and a lot) don't take it personal. There are going to be other agencies and I'm sure you are going to get accepted in one.

And accept yourself the way you are, because you can't change the way you were born. So don't waist your life wanting somebody else's life. You're beautiful in your own way and you are going to have an amazing life, no matter how you look! ;)

Delete Digital Drama

Just saw this, and I think it's important to spread it.
ABCFamily and Seventeen Magazine are doing a campain called Delete Digital Drama that's basically to stop cyberbullying and to warn people about that.
I though that was totally awesome. I mean, there are so many people that are teased at school. People can be super mean sometimes, and I am not saying that I am the most generous person in the world but, this is just wrong. And now that the media is such an influence in, like, every single person's life, it's so much easy to bully people and to tease people, sometimes even anonymously. You may think that it's a joke and your just having fun, but put yourself in the person's place. I mean, how would you feel?

Everyone, every single person in this world, has a different personality. You are your own person, and if there are things and people that you love, and if you have people that love you, it doesn't matter what other people are saying. If you know it's not true, and even if it is, it's yourself, and you can't change it, and you shouldn't, because you honestly don't need those people in your life, and if they can't accept you by who you are, you're better of without them.

And if you are doing it, just stop, and if your not, please don't. It hurts.

And if you see any mean comment, or anything mean that was said about someone, don't spread it. Delete it. Because I assure you that making someone feel bad will not make you feel any better about yourself.

PS. Show your support to ABCF and Seventeen Magazine (by the way follow them on twitter, if you don't, at @seventeenmag and @ABCFamily) by adding the Delete Digital Drama badge to your twitter profile or facebook profile. Go to http://abcfamily.go.com/movies/cyberbully/delete-digital-drama and be a part of it.

I'm going to an agency! ;)

I was planning to go to an agency this weekend but since I am in Arlington, VA, for two weeks(this week is going to be my cousin's birthday party and next weekend it's going to be his sister's party), so I'm probably going after I'm back home.
I am going to a modelling/commercials agency here in New York, and I'll post about it here, telling you guys how it went, what happened, etc..

Casting Websites and SCAMS!

Many people are not really into the whole "get an agent" thing, which I seriously don't understand. I mean, if you're willing to be an actor you should be willing to get an agent. But, many people just rather "get a shortcut" and subscribe in a Casting Website. First of all there are no shortcuts. I mean, literally, it's going to be a long way either way.
So if you want to try and get discovered on one of these Casting Websites, be my guest to subscribe. Just make sure it's not a big SCAM.
Yeah, unfortunatelly, there are bad people in the world. And there are people who are trying to get your money, so before you subscribe to ANY website, google "nameofthewebsite scam" and you are going to find out, if that website is a scam or not.
And DO NOT subscribe if it costs anything. It should be free. An agency is free. A Open Call is free. Casting Websites are free. So don't pay anything for it.
That's it for today. Hope it helped.

Agencies and getting an agent

The most recommended way to become an actor is finding an agent. I know a LOT of people don't want to get agents, and want to do it on their own, but getting an agent actually increases your chances by a lot. Why? Because agents are there to find information about auditions and find roles that you can play(according to your weight, height, skin color, hair color, age, etc.) and show them to you, so that you can choose if your either going to audition for that or not. Of course you can go to an audition without having an agent, but you are going to have more options and it's going to be a lot easier if you are with an agency. That's why an agent is going to be a big help in your acting career.

If you want to get an agent, you should find a agency first. Look for agencies close to you, choose the one you like the best and call them, asking if they are taking new talent. If they are, tell them you want to audition. If they aren't, move on. I'm going to make a post all about how to find agencies later.

Once you have your audition date and time, you should get prepared. Make sure to ask what they want you to bring to the audition. Make sure to take your resumé and your headshot(your resumé should be attached in the back of your headshot, actually) and anything else they might want you to bring.

Always have a monologue you like memorized.

In the day of your audition, make sure you know the place well, so you don't get lost. Also, get there a little bit earlier(if your audition is at 4, get there at 3:55). Don't get there too early, and in case you do, take a walk around the place, and wait a little before getting inside. They are going to give you a form to fill. Wait untill they call your name.

Just be yourself, show your personality and look confident. Also, no matter what's happening to you, always look like you are in a good mood. It doesn't matter if your dog just dies, or if your dad lost his job, or if you're grounded 'till eternity, if your not in a good mood, the directors are not going to like you. So when you are in your audition, forget the rest of the world.

The director is either going to call you or send you an e-mail, so be patient, and if you don't make it, there are other agencies. ;)

PS. There is no registration fee. It should be totally free!

New stuff every MONDAY and FRIDAY!

Hey!!
Just passing by to say that since I just created the blog (the day before yesterday), I already know a lot of things I'm going to blog about here, but I don't want to put everything in the same day, or in the same week. So, what I though about is, I could upload new things every Mondays and Fridays for the first 2 months of the blog. After that, I'm just going to blog whenever a new idea pops up.

So, I'm going to be updating my blog every monday and friday! Make sure to check it out.
I hope it helps you with your acting carreer! ;)

All About Open Calls

Hey guys,
Since I told you about the Disney Open Call that's going to happen on July 9th, I though I should probably talk about Open Calls, since some people may not know what those are, or what to do.

Yeah, basically an Open Call is an event where people go to get discovered. You don't have to pay for it, there is no registration fee, and anyone can go.
So, if you are going to an Open Call, or if you want to go to an Open Call, there are some things you should know.

You should bring with you:
  1. Your talent
  2. A headshot
  3. Your resumé listing all of your experience, training, and specific contact information
  4. If they ask you to bring a monologue to present, do it. If they don't they are probably going to give one to you, or a script(a scene) in the Open Call.
Tip: It's really good to have a monologue memorized just in case.
Tip 2: If the call is from 12 to 3, get there at 12, don't get there at 3.

When you get there, register and just sit down, relax, maybe read a book, or study your monologue, just wait untill your name is called. It's important that you look confident and in a good mood.
Oh, and don't take it personal if you get rejected. Keep in mind that there are many people there with you too, and this is a really competitive industry, so you are going to get rejected, over and over again. So it's important, not to take it personal and keep trying, because someday your going to get it, right?

PS. Be sure to know where the open call is. You don't want to get lost.

Getting Started

Hey hey!!
This is the post I was planning on. It's just a basic list that most people probably know, but I plan on getting deeper into things later(agents, agencies, open calls, blah blah blah).
So, a lot of people out there want to be actors, but don't really know what to do, and a lot of people think you will be discovered out of nowhere. You might, but it's a 0.000001% chance and you probably don't have your whole life to wait. Yes, some actors did get discovered like that, but that takes a lot of luck, which, in case you have, good. In case you don't, what do you have to do?
There are many ways of becoming an actor.
What you should do:
  • Take acting classes. It's a way of getting experience and prepare yourself.
  • You can go to open calls, or you can get an agent(which increases your chances and I totally recommend it), that's up to you.
  • Get experience(and stuff for your resumé) by being an extra before.
  • Always look clean and beautifull for the auditions.
  • Practice a lot before the audition
  • Be in a good mood
  • Look confidend
That's it. Super basic, but I'll get deeper in this things later on.

Update: Happy 4th of July!! ;D

Disney Channel Open Call

Hey guys,
Ok, I didn't expect my first post to be about this, especially because I didn't even talked about Open Calls, or Disney Channel (or anything), but I was looking on the internet, and I found it, and I just felt the need to share it with you guys.
So basically, Disney Channel is hosting an Open Call in Virginia, more specifically, in The Greater Richmond Convention Center, 403 North Third St., Richmond, VA 23219. It's going to be on July 9th, so if you either live in Virginia or is going to be there or can have your parents drive you there, make sure to attend. They are going to give you an application form and a monologue to present.
To participate, you should be from 10-18 years old, or look like you are 10-18.

There is NO fee, you don't have to pay anything.

Unfortunately, I'm not going, for I'm going to be in New York(home) at the time, but let me know if you will go, and leave a comment telling me how it went!!
