1 Week Modelling Course

Remember that modelling course I told you guys about in the last post? So, a few months back my agency called me and invited me to participate in one of them. They have one per week, and each day, Monday through Friday they teach you modelling abilities like posing, talking to the camera, catwalk..
That's how it went:

MODAY - The first day we had to learn how to work with our bodies. We had many different exercises and moved around a lot. If you ever took an acting class, it was very similar to many of the exercises we have in those kind of classes. It was a really fun day, and I got to meet all of the people that I would be working with for a week!

TUESDAY - Tuesday was picture day! They told us to wear simple natural looking makeup and to wear nice clothes. Each person at a time we posed for a professional photographer both sitting and standing while he gave us tips on how to make each picture better! Keep in mind that not all of the pictures have to be different and unique since from about 100 pictures they only select 12. It was definitely one of my favorite days since I'm just in love with taking pictures! Haha!

WEDNESDAY - This one was definitely one of my favorites, if not my favorite! We had to do a commercial (a bic pen commercial), one a time. Since I want to be a professional actress, you can see why that was my favorite, I just love talking to the camera! Anyway, one person at a time went into the room and filmed the commercial twice or three times to make it the best you could. I never got to watch it though :(

THURSDAY - Thursday they asked us to wear heels because we were going to learn how to walk on a catwalk. Our "coach" taught us what to do and gave us many tricks. I tripped a couple of times but in the end it was really fun because everyone didn't really know what to do so we were all learning together!

FRIDAY - Friday was supposed to be the final presentation, when we all showed what we could do with the abilities we learned during the rest of the week but they were having a pretty big casting call on the agency that day so there was no way we could do it. At least I didn't lose the trip because I ended  up doing the casting call! (no, i did not get the job. but it was fun anyway!)

This course I had was a few months back so I don't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure it was 2 hours per day, from 4 to 6 if I remember it right! It was a really great experience for me and I learned a lot of stuff I didn't know about modelling and acting! I recommend you guys do it too, if you can!

How to go to open calls and castings (modelling)

Last week I went to my agency and got some tips from the producer (or producing assistant). Here's what she said. Enjoy (:

• Never, never, never go without your photo book and photo card. Those are the model's professional material and you have to have that at all times with you.
• Don't try to draw attention to your clothes. They are looking for the model who fits what they are trying to do better, not the one who can dress better. You have to shine, not your clothes.
• Know yourself, your best qualities, how to work with your body and all that to make the pictures better. There are modelling classes out there. On my agency they are having classes that are just a week long, 5 days and you're ready (:
• Know you're measurements by heart(height, waist, the size of your clothes, everything).
• Be direct, answer all of their questions clearly and be super professional.
• Yes, you will get rejected. And again. And again. People there don't really care about your feelings so be prepared for that. And don't worry. Keep trying and you'll get there (:

Pics - what I took to the photoshoot

I know, you guys are probably sick and tired of posts about the modeling agency I went to, and my photoshoot and whatever, whatever, whatever, and that's why this is the last one(at least until I get a job). I just though you guys might want to see some pics of some of the things I took.

Tips - what to take to a photoshoot

Hey guys,
Before I say anything, I'm sorry for not posting on monday,I got really busy(with stupid stuff but still really busy) and all of a sudden it was 3 in the morning. But here it is.

Some tips that might help you to choose which clothes you should and which one yo shouldn't take to a photoshoot. By the way, these are only tips, you don't have to follow them. I'm here to help you, not tell you what to do.
Moving on...

What I took to my photoshoot

1- I tried to start getting basic everyday stuff like shorts and tank tops and jeans.. Of course I tried to take the ones that I though were beautiful enouh to be in my pictures but I think you just need some basic stuff besides all the glamour ;)
2- I'm a really girly girl, I love skirts, dresses, pink, purple.. so I got (absent mindedly) a lot of girly stuff.
3- Apart from the basic stuff, I tried to take clothes that I'd use to parties. I took my homecoming dress (:
4-As for shoes, I tried to take differen types. I did take some flats but it was a waste of time and space in my bag because they only do high heels. Fortunately I hade 4 different pairs
5- here were 4 looks but I took more clothes than I needed. There were many leftovers but since they are the ones who choose what you wear it's better to take more than you need.

Tips

1- first of all, take different kinds of clothing. Take stuff that you'd wear to school, and stuff that you'd wear to the mall, and something that you'd wear on a part or on a date, etc..
2- take more than necessary because you never know what they might like or not. Don't wear suff you don't like though. It's your photoshoot and you should wear what you like.
3- take things that are neutral and that would fit with anything. It's important to have those. But it's also important to take colorful stuff that you think it's cool.
4-express yourself with those clothes. Show your style and your personality in it. Choose clothing that shows who you are. Remember those are your pictures and whenever you look at them, you have to see yourself!
5- don't be shy. Take everything you want with you and let's see what happens!

The preparations for the photoshoot

My photoshoot is going to be today and I'm just so excited and I though I should share with you guys everything I'm doing to prepare myself for It. ( of course that's in my agency, yours may be different ).
In my agency you can choose between 100 pictures or 80 pictures. I'm going to do the 80 pictures one because it's cheaper and having 100 pictures does not increase your chances of getting jobs or anything like that, it's just for you to have more pics I guess..

In my agency they make a CD with all of your pictures + a folder with all of your pictures + a book with either 10(if you do the 80 pictures option) or 12(in case you do the 100 pictures option) and also a card with the 4 best pictures. That card is like a passcard to works you might do in the future. So if someone is looking for someone that has (example) blond hair and blue eyes(like me ;) ) and if you have blonde hair and blue eyes, that card is what they show whoever is casting the people. The "passcard" has 4 pictures in it no matter how many picture you choose to take.

They gave me a week to prepare myself and they asked me to bring my own clothes. We need 4 looks ready to the pictures but that I should bring more(pics of what I took with me coming soon) I think I kind of exaggerated though, but more is always better than less right?

They do your hair and makeup in the agency, so I don't have to do anything. Just bring my clothes and they will decide what I wear and the rest.

That's pretty much everything I had to do. I'm leaving in 30 minutes, my photoshoot is starting at 5:30(I mean, I'm starting to get ready at 5:30) but they ask you to come 30 minutes before.

Again, these information is about my agency and my agency only. I don't know other agencies and yours might be different so always do what the especialsits tell you to do.

My visit to the modeling agency - what I was wearing

Hey guys,
Just a fast post to let you know what I was wearing at my interview to the modeling agency. I've been super busy with this whole back home + back to work climate so.. I'm sorry. I'll be posting more soon.

I was wearing a simple dress and ballet flats and I had no make up on, and the reason why is that I though it was appropriate because people in modeling agency usually wants to see you for who you are, no make up. But they didn't tell me not to wear it, I just didn't because I thought it was right and because I was super late.

I love this dress, and it's simple and light. Perfect.

These ones are just because they are the only shoes that I have that matches the dress (flat I mean) and they are comfortable so.. Pefect!

Yeah, so that's it. Try to dress really simply, the interview take some time so you should be comfortable but beautiful at the same time.

My visit to the modeling agency!

Hey hey!
As you probably already know, I went to a modeling agency today. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures, because my camera had no battery at all, and neither did my phone (please don't kill me). But my instruments are charging now, and I'll be posting the pictures of my outfit soon enough.
So moving on to what happened, my mom called the agency yesterday and they told her that I could go there today at 5PM and I didn't need to bring anything except for myself.
So today, at 5, I went to my mom's work and from there, we went together to the agency, which is really, really close to the place my mom works.

When I got there I had to fill some information about me like my name, my age, my address, my phone number, my e-mail, the languages I speak, if I have any experience(which I don't by the way) and then we had to wait in a waiting room. 20 minutes later my name was called and we went inside with a producer.

He asked me if I wanted to be a model profesionally and he took my measurements(my height, waist, hips, etc..) he told me to walk(normally, like I walk in my everyday life).
Then he explained a lot about the modeling industry, and what they do. They also asked my mom if I could take pictures in bikinis and if I could cut and die my hair and they said that I didn't have to do it if I didn't want to, because, if someone doesn't, there are 50 more people that do, so they don't really care.

He also told me about a girl named Shirley, and how she changed so much since she got into the agency, 4 months ago. He showed me pictures of her, she is beautiful and she is going to Paris in some months.

Now, I'm not going to lie, I got kind of scared. When I came into the room, there were two piles of forms(like the one that I filled). One of them had like a billion forms and that was the rejected people pile. And the aproved people pile had only 3 forms in it. 3!!
But when we were done with the interview, he said, "I'm going to aprove you now. Welcome to the agency". I was so happy(but I didn't show that. Be professional).
He introduced me to Shirley and I'm going back there to take pictures until August 19th. I'll make a post about that too. And of course, post some pictures here! ;)
(I'm not saying that because I think I'm so awesome and got accepted, I'm just showing you guys that this is a really competitive business and that it's hard to get in. If you didn't make it the first time, try it in other agency and don't feel sad. Follow your dreams)

Just pointing out, modeling is really competitive and you'll get rejected a lot even if your the most beautiful person in the world. I'm sorry but it's the truth. So be strong!

I'm going to an agency! ;)

I was planning to go to an agency this weekend but since I am in Arlington, VA, for two weeks(this week is going to be my cousin's birthday party and next weekend it's going to be his sister's party), so I'm probably going after I'm back home.
I am going to a modelling/commercials agency here in New York, and I'll post about it here, telling you guys how it went, what happened, etc..
